Robotics Camp 2021 - MGI’s Partnership with IGT Caribbean

MGI partnered with IGT Caribbean for the  'IGT Caribbean Coding and Robotics Rock' Camp during July and August of 2021. This virtual, interactive summer camp taught coding and robotics skills to 36 children from 13 different centers and 5 different Caribbean countries including Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, St Kitts, St Maarten and Barbados.

The training programme was designed for students between 12-18 years of age, specifically targeted at students with limited or no prior exposure to coding and robotics. MGI delivered the training to the 36 participants selected from IGT’s After School Advantage (ASA) centres in Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and other territories within the Antilles.

The programme encompassed 7 days of training, delivered over a two-week period in August 2021, simultaneously across the selected IGT ASA business units. For each of the IGT ASA business units, a teacher or supervisor was provided for each group of students to ensure their attentiveness and participation.

Programme Outcomes

The programme content was delivered by MGI, at an introductory level, to be easily understood by the participants. In keeping with this arrangement, the course outline reflected four days of introductory courses which included:

- Coding and robotics applications

- HTML programming

- CSS and JavaScript programming

- Programming layout

Three days of assessments reflected on the course outline, to include a theoretical test, theoretical review, practical test and a practical review. Students were awarded with certificates of participation upon completion of the course.
