Crime
violencePrevention

MGI has an active partnership with the Violence Prevention Alliance in providing mapping and analytical modeling capabilities, evaluating social infrastructure, as well as demographic and economic data, and comparing these to crimes. Spatio-temporal models can be carried out, as well as multi-scale data analysis. GIS is used with crime data for both detailed statistical analyses, as well as the provision of operational and logistics support to the police.

MGI is currently conducting 2 projects involving crime and social mapping. Comprehensive asset mapping was carried out for 12 communities in Jamaica, yielding over 28,000 points in these areas. Asset weighting scores were added and comparisons done with crimes for the same areas. This would enable social-engineering simulations to be carried out in addressing broader issues with crime-fighting in these communities. MGI is also carrying out mapping exercises of abduction and missing people for 2008.
